It is often said that gratitude is key to many things such as happiness, contentment, true wealth and success. It is linked with serotonin, giving a calming affect on the body. Although it is easy to acknowledge, many people still do not practice gratitude.
In general, the more that you practice gratitude, the more content that you become in the present moment. Many people can experience feelings of dissatisfaction by focusing on things such as what they don’t have. It is important to have ambitions and goals, but even also important to be grateful for what you have and enjoy the journey to your aspirations. A gratitude reflection when working towards goals is to appreciate how much progress you have made.
People that spend the majority of their time feeling dissatisfied have an abundance of things that they can be grateful for. From people who have gained great success in a field (e.g. accumulating wealth, heightening their talents etc.), to people who maybe having a hard time (e.g. homeless, illness etc.). The fact is everyone has things to be grateful for.
The obvious things to be grateful for include close relations, but even if somebody felt they didn’t have that, there are still an abundance of things to be grateful for. For example, fresh air, nature, the sun or utilizing amenities that we didn’t make (e.g. the choice of foods in shops, the buildings and roads that we use etc.). Having gratitude for the current blessings in your life puts you on a frequency of abundance.
Once you can be grateful in yourself no matter the circumstance, you can remain content regardless of things external to you. One gratitude example is when working towards a goal, you can be grateful for the journey and lessons learnt that provide personal growth along the way to achieving your goal. Also, you can give thanks for being transformed into a better version of yourself that has achieved your goals.
This good feeling breeds more positivity around you; as you embody a positive vibe, you are energetically aligned to attract more positivity to you. In addition, visualizing and feeling the gratitude of your goal already being achieved is a renowned Law of Attraction technique. “A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles,” is a gratitude quote from Jane Fuller that nicely summarizes this. Other profound gratitude quotes include “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life,” by Melody Beattie.
People practice gratitude affirmations to feel more grateful and content. Also, by reciting affirmations more of that affirmation can be attracted in your life.
This is based on the Law of Attraction principle that like attracts like; whatever you focus on, you attract into your life. Affirmations work within this framework by shaping your thoughts, emotions, and energy toward what you want to manifest.
Here’s how:
1. Shifting Your Subconscious Mind
Repeating positive affirmations rewires your subconscious beliefs. If you affirm “I am confident and successful,” your brain starts accepting it as truth, making you act accordingly.
Your subconscious mind doesn’t distinguish between reality and imagination—it simply absorbs what you repeatedly tell it.
2. Changing Your Vibration and Energy
According to the Law of Vibration, everything (including thoughts and emotions) emits a frequency.
Positive affirmations raise your vibration, aligning you with the frequency of what you desire. The universe responds by bringing you experiences that match.
3. Reticular Activating System (RAS) and Focus
The RAS in your brain filters information based on what you focus on.
If you keep affirming “Opportunities flow to me effortlessly,” your brain will start noticing opportunities it previously ignored.
4. Emotional Magnetism
When you feel emotions behind your affirmations (gratitude, joy, excitement), you attract more of that energy.
Emotion is the fuel that accelerates manifestation.
5. Aligned Actions
Affirmations shape your mindset, which then influences your actions.
If you affirm “I am a successful entrepreneur,” you’ll subconsciously take actions that lead you toward business success.
6. The Universe Responds to Certainty
Doubt blocks manifestation, while certainty speeds it up.
Affirmations create a sense of already having what you desire, reinforcing faith in the process.
Gratitude Example:
Instead of saying, “I will be wealthy,” say “I am wealthy and abundance flows to me effortlessly.” This affirms it as a present reality, reinforcing the vibration of abundance.
