What are the Akashic Records? 🧠

Research into the relationship between memory and the brain is offering a different insight into how these work together. It is commonly though that memory and knowledge is stored ‘in the brain’. Despite this, the brain has been described by neuroscientists as ‘a transmitter and receiver of signals’ like a computer. As such, some are opting to the ‘possibility that memory is stored on a cloud similar to that which modern technology uses’. From this, your brain transmits and receives the signals to retrieve the memory.

This also links to the belief in the Akashic Records. In theosophy and anthroposophy, the Akashic Records are a compendium of all human events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future. They are believed by theosophists to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the etheric plane. They are a record of what will happen, is happening, or has happened and are believed to be in a different dimension, so the constraints of time do not apply. In addition, everything is meant to have has its own Akashic Record; not just your soul has an Akashic Record, but your house, different areas and even relationships between people.

This possibility gives a fresh, ancient look on different topics! For example, with this outlook, people that have Alzheimer’s have not lost memory, but their brain is simply having issues receiving the information from ‘the cloud’. It is comforting for many knowing that with this outlook, any memories and experiences are not lost or meaningless.

The Mind Cloud also links with Japanese experiments showing that minds are connected as a shared consciousness. Here are a couple of examples:

  1. In 1952 Japanese scientists were experimenting using two islands with the same species of monkeys on. They started dropping sweet potatoes down to the islands and after a while, one of the monkeys figured out that they could wash the dirt off the potatoes and eat them so they tasted better. In turn, on that island (Koshima) all the monkeys did this and when the hundredth monkey on Koshima did this, almost instantly, on the other island the monkeys also started to do the same thing. This was labelled as the Hundredth Monkey Theory.
  2. Another monkey experiment in Japan that links to this is the monkey lighter experiment. Scientists made ten separate rooms with a monkey in each. The monkeys were unable to communicate or hear anything from the other rooms. In one room, a scientist showed a monkey a lighter. The monkey did not know what it was, the scientist burnt the monkey with the flame and the monkey reacted frantically to being burnt. Following this, the scientist entered the other rooms and when they showed the lighter the monkeys reacted frantically anticipating being burnt despite never seeing a lighter themselves.
